Each credential below requires a separate examination process and documented case history — they are not memberships you pay for.
DABOI/ID — Diplomate, American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry
The highest board certification in implant dentistry. Fewer than 500 dentists in the U.S. hold Diplomate status — it requires passing rigorous written and clinical examinations and demonstrating advanced implant case outcomes.
MAGD — Master, Academy of General Dentistry
Earned by completing over 1,100 hours of documented continuing education. Mastership signals a lifelong commitment to clinical excellence across all disciplines.
FAAID — Fellow, American Academy of Implant Dentistry
Fellowship in the AAID requires demonstrated competency in implant placement and restoration, a written examination, and peer review of clinical cases. It marks a dentist recognized by peers as highly skilled in implantology.
DICOI — Diplomate, International Congress of Oral Implantologists
An internationally recognized board certification in implant dentistry, requiring examination and evidence of extensive implant case experience. Diplomate status represents the top tier of the ICOI credential ladder.
Misch Implant Institute Fellow
Training through the Misch International Implant Institute, founded by the late Dr. Carl Misch — one of the most respected implantologists in the world. Fellows are trained in advanced bone management, All-on-4, and full-arch reconstruction protocols.
Why this matters for your case
Most dental offices refer implant surgery out. At Trinity Dental Arts, everything happens under one roof, with one doctor who carries both the surgical and restorative expertise.
One doctor. No referrals.
Dr. Gjelaj places the implant, manages osseointegration, and designs the final restoration — all in the same practice. Handoffs between a surgeon and a separate restorative dentist are one of the most common sources of implant complications.
Difficult cases welcome.
Cases involving significant bone loss, prior failed implants, or systemic health factors require a higher level of planning and skill. Dr. Gjelaj performs in-office bone grafting, sinus lifts, and guided implant surgery — procedures many offices refer elsewhere.
Bone loss doesn't disqualify you.
Years of denture wear or extractions commonly cause jaw atrophy. Using 3D CBCT imaging and All-on-4 angulated placement techniques, Dr. Gjelaj treats many patients who were told elsewhere that they "don't have enough bone."
Prior implant failures.
Patients who have experienced failed implants at other practices often turn to Trinity Dental Arts for a second opinion and a fresh approach. Dr. Gjelaj's dual Diplomate status reflects advanced training in exactly these complex salvage cases.
A practice built around implants — not one that offers them
Plenty of offices list implants on their website. Most are general dentistry practices where implant placement is an occasional add-on to cleanings and fillings. This practice is the opposite: implant surgery and full-arch restoration are the center of the work. Dr. Gjelaj carries dual board certification — Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry and Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists — alongside a Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry (MAGD), a combination held by fewer than 1% of U.S. dentists. Over 20+ years she has placed more than 10,000 implants, a board-certified anesthesiologist manages sedation on site, and an in-house lab fabricates the final teeth under one roof.
Do not take that on our say-so. The board directories are public — verify any dentist's credentials there, including Dr. Gjelaj's, before you sit in any chair.
