Emergency Care Questions

What counts as a dental emergency?

A dental emergency is any situation involving severe pain, bleeding, swelling, infection, or trauma to teeth or gums. Common emergencies include knocked-out teeth, broken or cracked teeth, severe toothaches, lost crowns or fillings, dental abscesses, and injuries to the mouth or jaw. If you’re unsure, call us at (727) 228-6846 — we’ll help you decide if you need to be seen immediately.

How quickly can I be seen for a dental emergency?

Trinity Dental Arts reserves time each day for emergency patients. In most cases, we can see you the same day you call — often within a few hours. For after-hours emergencies, our voicemail provides instructions to reach the on-call doctor.

What should I do if I knock out a tooth?

Time is critical — a knocked-out adult tooth has the best chance of being saved if reimplanted within 30–60 minutes. Pick up the tooth by the crown (not the root), rinse gently with milk or saline if dirty, and try to place it back in the socket. If that’s not possible, store it in milk and call us immediately at (727) 228-6846.

How do I handle a severe toothache?

Severe toothache often signals an infection or nerve issue and should be evaluated promptly. In the meantime: rinse with warm salt water, take over-the-counter pain reliever (ibuprofen or acetaminophen), and apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek. Avoid placing aspirin directly on the gum — it can burn the tissue. Call us same-day for proper treatment.

Do you offer same-day emergency appointments?

Yes — same-day emergency appointments are part of how Trinity Dental Arts operates. Call (727) 228-6846 as early in the day as possible, describe what’s happening, and our team will fit you in. For after-hours situations, our on-call line guides you to immediate help.

What if my dental crown falls off?

Save the crown if you can — store it in a small container or bag. Avoid chewing on that side. Over-the-counter dental cement (available at most pharmacies) can temporarily reattach a crown until you’re seen. Call Trinity Dental Arts as soon as possible; the underlying tooth can be vulnerable to damage or decay without the crown in place.

Is a chipped tooth a dental emergency?

It depends on the severity. A small surface chip with no pain can usually wait until a regular appointment. A chip that exposes the inner layers of the tooth, causes pain, or has sharp edges that cut your tongue should be treated quickly to prevent further damage or infection. When in doubt, call us — we’ll triage on the phone.
